Definition of the word: Delevator

Delevator - Not entirely unlike an elevator, but instead of being designed to take one “up” from ground level, it’s designed to take one “down” from ground level. After the notion of “going downtown” (though not in the sexual form) became a matter of importance, most locations chose to do so with a fire and/or stripper pole, down which one would simply slide. Once subterranean depths exceeded several hundred feet, it was decided that the friction was too great, the margin for error was too likely to cause a sure and swift demise, and that generally no corporation would insure against it.

In this modern, future and futuristic era, the quarter to twenty-mile fire pole has been almost entirely replaced by the delevator, which is a much, much safer means of transportation, despite the tremendously high likelihood that it will travel at speeds in excess of 10Gs and the almost ever-present certainty that there will be sharp, skin-piercing, ornamental shards or jagged, even rusty steel all around.

The delevator is widely regarded as the best, if not the only, way to travel many miles below the surface of any given planet or moons surface.
